POMONA寄出录取通知啦。。。有谁会收到?

ZT: 来自POMONA的官网:

Following tradition, the Pomona College Admissions Office will ring the Sumner Hall bell 16 times this afternoon to announce that acceptance letters have been mailed to potential members of the Class of 2016.

Setting a new record, the Admissions Office received 7,457 applications for admission, an increase of 3.5%. For fall 2012, 956 students – 491 women and 465 men – were admitted. Of those, 147 were admitted through Posse (10), Questbridge (16) and early decision. Another ten were admitted last year and deferred. Pomona is also expecting approximately 15 transfer students and the Pomona College-Cambridge University Downing Scholar.

The admitted high school seniors come from all over the United States, with the largest groups from California (307), Washington (57), Illinois (47), New York (45), Texas (34), Oregon (32), Colorado (23), Arizona (21) and Massachusetts (21).

Internationally, the admitted class encompasses citizenship in 52 different countries between international and dual citizen students. The largest groups are from China (26), Mexico (18), Korea (12), Great Britain (10) and India (10).

On their applications, 42% self-identified as students of color, and 15% are the first in their families to attend a four-year college.

On the academic front, 92% of the students coming from schools that rank were in the top 10% of their graduating class, with 26% graduating as valedictorian and just under 8% assalutatorians. The median SAT scores are 740 verbal, 740 math and 740 writing. The median ACT is 33.

Reaching this point for the Admissions Office, according to Seth Allen, the vice president and dean of admissions and financial aid, required more than a year of hard work, long nights, thousands of gallons of coffee and emergency supplies from Some Crust among other places. Fifteen people reviewed the applications.

Allen arrived at Pomona in July 2011, and the Class of 2016 marks the first Pomona College class admitted under this management. “Having worked at three institutions,” says Allen, “I was grateful for the time I had to get to know Pomona and the kind of students who thrive here. The students we admitted are among some of the most extraordinary in the U.S. and the world, but there were equally fantastic students we didn't have the opportunity to include because of the small class size.”

The Admissions Office can’t rest yet though. April is admissions month on campus, with open house programs on April 9 and 16. The deadline for admitted students to let Pomona know ifthey will attend is May 1. Soon thereafter, the Admissions Office will know which of the 956 admitted students will be the approximately 400 members of the Class of 2016..
