Week 1
This week was the first week that I spent my timein CTY. However, what does the CTY stand for? CTY stands for “Center forTalented Youth”, is an American summer school for children between Grades 2 to12. One requirement for it is to pass a test named SCAT - “ School and CollegeAbility Test”. This test has two parts, they are Maths and Verbal Reasoning. Ifyou pass Maths part, you can choose the courses from the Maths and Sciencegroup. On the other hand, if you pass both Maths and Verbal parts, you can havethe options of both parts’ courses and choose your favorite course to study inCTY. Unluckily, I was just able to pass the Maths part, so I chose the lessonof “Examing the evidence”.
我在CTY度过的第一周。CTY是“天才少年”美国夏令营，是为2至12年级的学生开设的暑期课程。前提要求是通过SCAT“学校和学院能力测试”，有数学和词汇推理两部分。我只通过了数学考试，所以选择了“检查证据”这门科学课。
On the first day of the summer school, my friendYichen and I arrived at Roger Williams University, university where we stayedfor three weeks. The first day was the “arriving day” during which studentschecked in and later played games and relaxed until the night. I also learnt anew game called “4 squares” that consists of 4 squares that look like this, +,this is the basic thing we need to play 4 square, and also it requires 4 ormore people to play it. It was popular in CTY.
Besides playing, I made many friends that were bothkind and helpful. Also, my Residential Assistant or RA, Brittany Harper tookgood care of us throughout our daily tasks, although she was a universitystudent; she was extremely nice to everyone. My roommate was also a Chinesenamed Angel and we exchanged gifts with each other.
除了玩之外，我结识了许多善良和乐于助人的朋友。RA BrittanyHarper把我们照顾得很好，尽管她只是一名大学生，她对每个人都非常友好。我和的中国室友Angel交换了小礼物。
The second day was the day we started to study!First, I’ll introduce the teachers, Ms. Christine and teacher assistant Ms.Daniela, who was only 19 years old. In addition, I also became friends with twoboys, Fisher and Arjun.On that day, Ms. Christine gave us a knowledge basedtest, that we had to take again on the last day of the summer school to see ifwe improved or not.
第二天我们开始学习！我的老师是Christine，老师助理Daniela19岁。我还和两个男孩Fisher 和Arjun成了朋友。Christine让我们进行了一个知识测试，在CTY的最后一天我们会再次做这个测试以便了解我们在夏令营期间是否有所进步。
Then, during the remaining days in week 1, welearnt how to observe evidence; the procedure when you arrive at a crime scene,such as “Securing the crime scene,” “Separating the witnesses,” “ Sketching thescene,” etc. After this, we analyzed hair under the microscope and sawdifferent hairs, ranging from mine to some belonging to animals. Unfortunately,my hair didn’t have medulla! We also analyzed different kinds of fibers andfingerprints. For one experiment that consisted of analyzing fingerprints, weneeded to take our oil samples from our noses and ears. But I couldn’t find manysamples, so I used Ms. Christine’s sample, She also said I did a great job.
我们学会了如何观察证据和到达犯罪现场的程序：比如“确保犯罪现场安全”，“隔离证人”，“草绘场景”等。我们在显微镜下观察并分析了头发，从我自己的头发到一些动物的毛发。不幸的是，我的头发没有髓质！我们还分析了不同种类的纤维和指纹。对于分析指纹的实验，我们需要从鼻子和耳朵中取出我们的油脂样品。但是我找不到很多样本，所以我从Christine那里取得了样本，她还说我做得很好。
Each weekday we had two activities that we did inthe evenings. For example, on Saturday we had an activity called finding“treasures.” Then on Sunday, we had an activity called “World Cup” during whichall the students were divided into few groups; each group had their owncountry’s name and catchphrase. My group was Italy. Then we all had acompetition among the groups. We took the second place! The first one wasJapan.
我们每天晚上有两项活动。周六有“找寻宝藏”活动。星期天有“世界杯”活动，学生被分成几组，每组有自己国家的名字和标语。我的小组是意大利，小组之间进行了比赛。我们组取得了第二名！第一名是日本。
After the World Cup, we went to our classroom tostudy. Ms. Christine divided us into there groups A, B and C to solve a crime.She also gave us jobs such analyzing fingerprint job, collecting fibers,identifying the hairs, etc. I was in Group A, serving as a detective trying toanalyze fibers. There were many kinds of fibers such as cotton and silk. My jobwas to find whose fiber(s) did it belong to. Due to the limited time,Detectives were able only to work for one and a half hour. So we just continuedwork the following day which was next week.
“世界杯”结束后，克里斯汀将我们分成A，B和C组来解决犯罪问题。她还为我们分配了分析指纹、收集纤维、识别头发等工作。我在A组，担任分析纤维的侦探，找到它所属的纤维，例如棉和丝。侦探只能工作一个半小时。
To recap this week, the happiest thing was that Istarted a chapter in my life in CTY and made many friends. On the other side,bad things were that my phone got broken and saw a power-point presentationthat was quite boring. In the end, this PPT was useful to us. I was reallyexcited to see what would happen next week!
Week 2
So this week perhaps was my favorite week sincethere were so many happy and interesting things that had happened. Some werealso bad things but not too many.
First, let’s continue talking about the crime workwe started last week. After a long time on the first day of the second week, wefinally finished the crime. Then it was the most exciting time, Mrs. Christineand Mrs. Daniela showed us the final result. We got the results explaining whowas the murderer, and why, how did the crime happen. “ So overall,” Ms.Christine said, “ Group A did the best job, but others did well too!” Luckily,I was in Group A! After that, one of my classmates in Group A approached me andsaid that she thought that in her opinion my work was the hardest one and thatI did the best job in our group!”
我们继续进行犯罪侦查。经过一段时间后我们终于完成了犯罪侦查。最激动人心的时刻是Christine和Daniela向我们展示了最终结果。即谁是凶手？为什么？犯罪是如何发生的？”克里斯汀说我们A组做得最好，工作也最有挑战。
Besides this, there were many other happy things,too! Our RA, Brittany made a rock, with a name “Urock!” Starting this week, shegave this rock to a student in her hall that she thought performed excellenteveryday. The student who had the rock would keep it for one day. How lucky wasI? I got the rock for the excellent performance on the first day! Everyone washappy! That was a good memory! Moving on, at the dancing time of the last dayof each week, there would be students from each RA’s hall names as “ TheStudent of the Week”. And I got recognition again; this time I won the prize of “ The Student of the Week” for the second week. I thought I was theluckiest student in our RA’s hall!
我们的RA，Brittany制作了名为“Urock！”的石头。她把这块石头给每天表现都很优秀的学生，这个学生将保留石头一天。我在第一天就获得了美好的Urock！每周最后一天的舞蹈时间，每个RA的大厅都会产生“本周学生之星”。我又幸运获得了“本周学生之星”奖。
Then, it was time for some studying and learning.This week, the lessons were more interesting. We analyzed impressions and usedBio-foam of footprints, tools of tool marks, teeth and bagels of toothmarks andused lipstick for lip marks… Then, we analyzed bullets, guns, handwriting andblood. In the experiment of handwritings, the teachers asked us to write asentence using the letters from A to Z and found the letter that your partnerwrote. For blood, we needed to test the blood patterns splattered in differentways and shapes (of course using the fake blood). And also we studied the bloodtypes.

On the weekend, my favorite event was called the“Water Day”. The groups were the same as we had during the World Cup’s game, soI was still in the “Italy” group. On that day, I wore the clothes that werewaterproof because I predicted we would have lots of water on our clothes. Yes,I was right, there were few activities. All of them made my clothes wet butluckily, there were waterproof! There were games of American Baseball on water,“Everybody is it” and so on. My favorite game was the baseball one because Iwas the first person on our team to run for a whole round!
我最喜欢玩水活动。我还在“意大利”小组，我穿着防水的衣服，有好几个活动把我的衣服都弄上了水。我喜欢打棒球，我是团队中第一个参加比赛的人！
As usual, later we went back to our class.Actually, the teachers wanted us to go to the lab but they forgot to remind usthat we needed to wear long pants. So they changed the plan and we were able towatch “Forensic Files!”
老师们希望我们去实验室，但忘了提醒我们穿长裤，所以改变计划看“法医档案！”
So the happy things were that I got “The Student ofthe Week” and “U rock” pirzes. The bad thing was that my eyes were itchy so Iwent to the Health Office, and lost the class time for about a half hour.
The time’s so fast! Just one week left!
Week 3
“Oh my god! This is the third week of the time in CTY! So at theend of this week, we are going to separate and it would be quite difficult tosee each other again.” Suddenly, I was sad, I tried to cherish and protectevery second during this week, and, of course, remember every singleinteresting thing that had happened at the CTY and between my friends, teachersand me. I wanted the time to turn to the first day of CTY so that I could enjoythe time in CTY again.
在CTY的第三周我很伤心，我试图珍惜每一秒，我会铭记在CTY相识的朋友、老师和有趣的事情。我希望时间倒流到我来CTY的第一天，让我再次享受CTY的美好时光。
Don’t forget that we also had lessons during this week! This weekjust had five days so therefore we had fewer lessons. At the first day of theweek, we continued analyzing blood types, blood splatters and blood. Afterthat, we analyzed DNA and saw our “OWN DNA!” But I didn’t take pictures of itbecause first, my phone was broken, second, I didn’t even bring my phone. Thatwas sad! Then, we finished analyzing toxins. Next was the thing I liked themost “Solved a big crime!” and this time my job was to do Handwriting andanalyze Bullets. My partner was Bullets and markers analyzer. Together weanalyzed bullets. For handwriting, I used the evidence of an unknownhandwritings and asked suspects to write the same thing as the way to compareto the initial evidence. However, I had to read for them because I didn’t wantthem to see the handwriting style and avoid writing with the same style? Andthere were two funny things during the time we solved the crime, too! The firstone was Ms. Daniela was the “victim”, but I saw her moving in the crime scene!Later when we went to the cafeteria, everyone stared at her because there was“blood” everywhere on her body. In addition, her jeans were broken andsomething from the inside of her head “came out.” Then the next day, wecontinued solving the crime. After we found out who was the “murderer”, we“welcomed” the last event of CTY for learning and studying! Guess what it was?Actually, I mentioned this event before on the first page of Week #1. Yes! Itwas taking the test! I was nervous because I was afraid that I would fail thistest but I was relaxed later because I started to grasp most or even all of allthe knowledge!
我们继续分析血型、血液飞溅和血液，DNA并看到了我们自己的DNA！接下来我们分析了毒素和侦破一个大案件！我做笔录并分析子弹，我的搭档是子弹和标记分析员。我们一起分析了子弹，我使用了未知笔迹作为证据，并要求嫌疑人写出与初始证据相同的内容，来与原始笔迹作比较。我必须为他们朗读，因为我不希望他们看到字迹而有意避免相同风格的笔迹？在我们解决犯罪的过程中，Daniela是“受害者”，我看到她在犯罪现场来回移动！当我们去食堂时，每个人都盯着她看，因为她身上到处都是“鲜血”。她的牛仔裤坏了，里面的东西也露出来了。”第二天，我们继续解决犯罪问题。在我们发现谁是“凶手”后，我们开始“欢迎”在CTY的最后一个学习活动！猜猜它是什么？就是之前在第1周的的日记里提到的再一次测试！我很紧张，后来就放松了，因为我掌握了大部分甚至所有学过的知识！
On August 3rd, was the very last day and overall my worst day inCTY. I had to say good-bye to all of my new friends! But before that, we had ahappy time - we sang and danced! After this, all the students went away exceptfor Yichen and me! That was because our parents met our teachers to have ashort conversation on our behaviors during the camp. After the conversation, mymother smiled at me and said that I performed well! She tried to ask the8teachers what was my disadvantage, but they didn’t say about it.
最后一天，我依依不舍向所有新朋友道别！我和Yichen的妈妈拜访了我们的老师，对我们的表现进行了简短的沟通。之后妈妈对我微笑，说我表现很好！妈妈还试图向老师询问我的缺点，但他们没有说。
And, of course, I gave gifts to my RA, friends andteachers!
临别时我给我的RA、朋友和老师赠送了小礼物！
Then, we left Roger Williams University, left the CTY, leavingbehind our footprints and fingerprints, but remembering our multiple memoriesof things that had happened there. The happiest thing was that I could see myparents but the worst thing ever was me leaving my fun and exciting time atCTY. Lastly, I will miss everyone I met there!
我们离开了CTY，但是把我们的脚印和指纹，还有充满乐趣和激动人心的时刻留在了CTY，CTY的美好回忆深深地印在我的心里。我会想念我在CTY遇到的每个人！
