3. Build me a son, O Lord,
陶冶我儿，主啊
4. who will be strong enough to know when he is weak,
是真强者虽弱不自欺
5. and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid;
是真勇者虽惧不自弃
6. one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat,
内诚则虽败犹傲然不屈
7. and humble and gentle in victory.
即胜亦翩然谦虚
8. Build me a son whose wishes will not take the place of deeds;
陶冶我儿，愿行合一
9. a son who will know Thee-
令知上主
10. and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge.
令知下己，上主下己为学之基
11. Lead him, I pray,
引领他，我祈愿
12. not in the path of ease and comfort,
莫旅安乐之途
13. but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge.
宁蹈危困之径，惕砺而行
14. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm;
决起于风暴之逆
15. here let him learn compassion for those who fail.
悲怀于落魄之人
16. Build me a son
陶冶我儿
17. whose heart will be clear, whose goal will be high;
明心净澈，存志高远
18. a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men;
不欲驭人，但求驭已
19. one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.
不忘前车，阔步未来
20. And after all these things are his, add, I pray enough of a sense of humor,
如依所愿，我祈请，再赐他幽默
21. so that he may always be serious,
则虽时时求是
22. yet never take himself too seriously.
不致自以为是
23. Give him humility,
赐他谦卑
24. so that he may always remember
如则铭记
25. the simplicity of true greatness,
至简至大
26. the open mind of true wisdom,
至公至知
27. and the meekness of true strength.
至弱至强
28. Then, I, his father,
我为乃父
29. will dare to whisper, "I have not lived in vain."
将自许曰：“今生未曾虚度！”
